Prices of food in Bulgaria increase by 50% for a year

Sharp increase of main food prices in May 2011 compared to last year has been reported by the Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets State Commission.
Potatoes are more expensive with 75%. Currently, they are traded at least at 1-1,10 leva per kg. On the market they are sold at an average price of 1,50 leva per kg.
Other commodities have also reached 50% increase. Sugar has registered 61% rise in price and is now traded at 2,15 lv./kg on whole markets. Garlic is more expensive with 51% and reaches 8,20 leva/kg on the markets.
Flour and apples prices also jumped with nearly 50%. Oil is 40% more expensive.
The only products which have registered a drop in their selling prices in May 2011 compared to same period in 2010 are the tomatoes and cucumbers, as well as wieners
.
A comparison to the prices of 2007 onwards shows that only pork and minced meat cost less now, compared to 3-4 years ago. Presumably, this is a result of using techniques which give higher yields of the end-product.
