06/30/2008 Ukrainian grain exports rise Ukraine: in 2008/09 MY grain export to total 13.5-14 mln tonnes
In view of the planned for 2008 grain yield at the level of 40 mln tonnes, next season Ukraine may export 13.5-14 mln tonnes of grain, reported Yuriy Melnik, Minister of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine.
He noted that in 2008/09 MY wheat, barley and maize will remain the main exported grain crops from Ukraine. At that, Minister did not specified planned export volumes by crops and said that more specifically about these can be said after completing of the harvesting campaign and conducting consultations with the participants of the Ukrainian grain market.
Y. Melnik noted that Ukraine in 2008/09 MY may return to its position as one of the leading countries-exporters (along with Russia, Kazakhstan and EU countries).
At that, Minister noted that currently there is no necessity of introduction of any restrictions for grain export from Ukraine because of favorable forecast regarding new crop as well as considerable carry-over stocks of grain, that currently total 5.7 mln tonnes.
Talking about results of this season, coming to the end, Y. Melnik noted that the forecast, made by Ministry, as for 2007/08 MY grain export at the level of 3.7 mln tonnes will be competed in the full volume.
To date, Ukraine exported 3.4 mln tonnes of grain. With daily export at the level of 45-50.000 tonnes during the rest 8 days, remained to the end of the season, the forecasted export volume will be achieved, reported Minister.
